Iran Claims Attack on American Facility in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Counterattacks.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a significant and continuing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area near the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any impact is uncertain and the American officials has remained silent.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites associated with the the regime, with President Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a series of missiles," it added.
It said missile fragments landed in a residential area in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
