New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the player will recover well after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.
Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during their latest talk.
“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His family, they’re in good spirits and he will come through this without issue.”
It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he has been listed as critical but stable.
“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”
New York police shared video stills earlier this week of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and police mentioned it is unknown if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt were reported.
The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning near the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was taken to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The shooter fled the scene.
Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a newborn.
“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “And I’m thinking about his wife, worrying about his newborn and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“A certain process is underway, I’ll keep private, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”
Boyd hasn’t played in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with a shoulder issue that needed an operation.
Boyd came to New York as a new signing in March and was projected as a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on early August and was carted from the field.
Boyd has stayed involved with the squad all season long while healing from his surgery.
“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”
Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of UT in 2019. He later played for Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
