The star has given the full amount of his £25k award winnings to the trust for venues, which operates to save the UK's small live music spots.

He was awarded the prize on October 16 as his new release the album was declared the outstanding release of the past year.

He has decided to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the essential function small stages fulfilled in his initial steps.

"I personally would not have achieved my current career if it wasn't for all the shows I did around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," remarked the artist. "These spaces are iconic, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these locations have shut down – approximately one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

Recently, top acts including the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also took part, raising over £100k on his live tour to support numerous small stages across Britain.

The donation assisted locations that were facing potential shutdown due to issues caused by flooding, blazes and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and neighbor objections.

Some locations received funding support in modernizing facilities and gear that positively impacted artists and audiences.

"The notion that money from shows in big venues backs the local stages, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just sensible," Fender has said.

Fender is not the first artist to donate his award winnings to good deeds.

In they received the award in the mid-90s for their album Different Class, vocalist Cocker announced that the band would donate their prize money to the non-profit the charity.

That year, musician Ms Dynamite shared her prize between multiple good causes, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"Additionally, I contributed a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I trained in gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked updated gear," Ms Dynamite explained to outlets.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective donated their prize money to the community center that supported their group, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

And winners that year the group gave their prize to a MS organization after a close contact was found to have the illness.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," stated artist Small. "The money was the extra but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the cake. So our winning affected somebody else's life."

Recently, the MVT announced it had rescued several small stages in the South East, by bringing them into local control.

One venue in the city and The Croft in Bristol were bought under the community ownership program, which is funded by the arts council and supporters who acquire "shares" in the venues.
