Sovereign to Broadcast Personal Statement on Cancer in Nationwide Programme

The Monarch has recorded a personal message regarding his journey with cancer, set to air as part of this year's Stand Up To Cancer campaign, spearheaded by a leading cancer charity and Channel 4.

Official sources confirmed the King would reflect on his "healing process" as a person living with the disease, in a televised statement on Friday at the evening slot.

The recording, filmed within Clarence House a fortnight ago, will highlight the critical nature of routine screenings to ensure more people detect the disease at an initial point.

This constitutes a rare update on the wellbeing of the Monarch, who has been receiving ongoing care since revealing his diagnosis in early last year. But it is thought unlikely the King will identify his particular diagnosis.

Fundraising Core Mission

The awareness initiative each year generates donations for scientific studies and treatment and urges people to get check-ups to improve the probability of an timely detection.

The King's candid approach about his condition, and living with cancer, has been designed to raise awareness and to persuade more people to get screened - and this will be advanced with this unusual royal involvement.

So far the King's main approach to his cancer has been to continue his schedule, maintaining a full diary alongside his ongoing course of care, and he is understood not to have desired to be characterised by his diagnosis.

The past twelve months has seen the Sovereign, embarking on several overseas trips, such as visits to Italy and Canada, and welcoming the biggest number of foreign dignitaries to the UK for almost 40 years, including the German president in recent days.

Friday's Special Show

Friday evening's awareness show on television, featuring presenters like several TV personalities, will urge people not to be frightened of getting preventative tests.

Each presenter have been had experience with cancer - one host revealed recently she had had an operation for breast cancer, while Balding was treated for thyroid cancer more than 15 years ago. Host Adam Hills has previously spoken about his parent, who had one form of cancer and then later another illness.

The programme will target the estimated nine million people in the UK who health organisations says are not current with national health programmes, with an digital tool to let people determine if they are eligible for tests for breast, bowel and cervical cancer.

In an bid to demystify health tests and illustrate the value of timely identification there will be a live broadcast from hospital departments at Addenbrooke's and Royal Papworth hospitals in Cambridge.

"I want to remove the anxiety from cancer screening and prove everyone that they are not on their own in this," stated Davina McCall.

The Landscape of Health Checks

Right now in the UK, there are a number of publicly available checks - for major health concerns - available to specific demographics.

A new lung cancer screening programme is also being gradually implemented for people at high risk of being diagnosed with the illness, specifically targeting people aged 55-74 years old, who are smokers or have smoked in the past.

Individuals may discuss specific tests, but there is no national programme operational.

Ongoing Efforts

The Stand Up to Cancer initiative, which has generated £113m for many years, is supporting multiple medical projects with many patients.

His Majesty, in a statement for attendees at a event for support groups in the spring, had spoken of recognising the "overwhelming and at times frightening situation" for cancer sufferers and their loved ones.

But he noted his experience of living with cancer had demonstrated that "periods of great challenge of sickness can be alleviated by the greatest compassion," as he praised those who cared for individuals with the illness.

Official sources has not made public the specific type of cancer the King has, or what treatment he has been given. The King's cancer was detected subsequent to he had undergone a medical treatment.
