The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Horror Merging Silent Hill and Social Deduction Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation revealed several fascinating future games, but one especially has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive experience where a girl harboring several human souls inside her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her exist four distinct personas, each with their own fears and drives. These souls can take over spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased footage, much of the narrative takes place within a creepy hospital, though other scenes show the protagonist navigating a desolate church.

An Environment of Personal Horror

"What makes you fearful of? What causes you uncomfortable?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. People in power. Things that seem trivial to others can trigger something primal inside us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are unique to every individual."

The central mechanic involves managing the persona that emerges at a particular moment. However, these souls will switch against your will during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the protagonist one after another. When the soul shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision

At first glance, UN:Me shares noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is filled with nurses who all share the same face, with disturbingly broad smiles. Patients in the lobby have enormous flowers where their necks are. Flowers are a recurring element, contrasting natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "Each of the personas claims that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a creator. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is real."

Once players have deduced a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. But, because each soul can deceive or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the true [soul] by your own actions," a voice suggests. "The final entity remaining might be a fraud. In any case, your decisions are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced release date, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
