The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
