Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit sci-fi show wrapping up—and a second season officially in the works—the writers' room opened up about the fan response and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Fan Response

One could easily to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions about Pluribus. He is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to force fed something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by what people are saying.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

A Pressing Query: Will the showrunner Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team are not listening by fan response, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… sort of.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to discard a solid concept for a superior concept. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Of course, why mess with the classics?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
